Owners Bradley Lum (Executive Chef) and Josefa Carballo Lum (General Manager)


Executive Chef Bradley Lum and his wife/General Manager Josefa Carballo Lum are delighted to share their love of “da ono grindz” (the delicious food or eats in Hawaiian).

A little about the owners of Grindz: Executive Chef Bradley Lum and General Manager Josefa Carballo Lum are a husband and wife team. Chef Bradley, who has roots from the Hawaiian Islands dating back several generations, has been cooking for over 30 years. He was also the executive Chef/owner at Aloha Kitchen in San Leandro and San Jose until 2008. Josefa Carballo Lum was a senior practice manager at one of the nation’s top corporate immigration law firms based in San Francisco for 15 years. Josefa, who considers the islands her second home, compliments her creative spouse with her many years of management, organizational and problem solving skills. Their partnership officially began in April 2011 when they married on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

One year later (2012) they embarked on a challenge to open a full service restaurant (Grindz) in San Francisco. They decided that this would be a good opportunity for them to spend time with one another and share their love of ono food. As City natives, they wanted their business to be in San Francisco. They are pleased to be a part of the Richmond district as the neighborhood has welcomed them to their community of families, friends, small businesses, restaurants, merchants, etc.

The City is a melting pot of diverse ethnicities and cultures, which embraces differences and creativity. They are actively teaming up with local artists to promote their artwork at the restaurant as well as food vendors and distributors to use quality, local and sustainable ingredients when available. They support the creation of new jobs in San Francisco and welcome the opportunity to work with various political affiliations and non-profit organizations with good causes.  They look forward to partaking in other city and community related events in the near future.

2012: In addition to preparing to open Grindz, the team catered a private reception for Mayor Ed Lee and local business owners.

2013: Grindz expanded into corporate catering.

2014: Grindz catered our first wedding!  We also made the best brunch list on Thrillst.

2015: Our malasadas were featured in Thrillst as one of the best donuts.

2016: Recipes featured in a national magazine, Shape, May 2016.

2017: Chef Bradley Lum’s partnership with SPAM.  Spam & Cheese Waffle demo at Giants game in August 2017.

2018:  Solid start of the year for Grindz.  We catered an event for 850+ people!
